FAQ(Frequently asked questions)
My motorcycle ran when I parked it 10 years ago. Why is it not running now?
Time is a bigger killer of vehicles more so than milage. When a motor vehicle is stored with fuel in its tank, that fuel will evaporate and it leaves behind a gummy varnish (see our carburetor page here). This varnish clogs up the fuel system and prevents it from running. Batteries will also discharge themselves and refuse to hold a charge (see our battery page here for more info). These will be the most common ailments that prevent it from starting.
My tires looked cracked. Is that safe?
Absolutely not. any rubber parts will dry up over time. Tires can become hard and crack which makes them unsafe to ride on. In most cases they need to be replaced.
My motorcycle has been sitting in it with other fluids. Should this be a concern?
Yes, brake fluid goes bad (see our brake page here) and so does coolant and oil. Over time they will break down and they should also be changed prior to putting the bike in service.
Can you make my motorcycle run again? Its been sitting for XXX years.
Without seeing it in person, no one would be able to answer that question. although we are confident we can get most bikes going again, not all are salvageable or cost effective to do so. We always recommend having us inspect it (free service) so we can see what we would be up against and go from there.
How much does it cost to make an old bike run again?
This greatly depends on its condition and how much work needs to be done to get it to a safe operating point. Again, without having a bike in front of you to see, it is hard to estimate a cost for it. We always recommend having us inspect it (free service) so we can see what we would be up against and go from there.
