My motorcycle pops out of gear. What could be wrong?

Bent selector forks or worn engagement dogs are to be the suspect. If the selector fork is bent, the gears will not fully engage and may pop out under load. Worn engagement dogs will allow the gears to separate from mesh and pop out of gear.

What is a selector fork and what are en gam gent dogs?

The selector fork is used to slide the gears on their shafts when you change gears. The engagement dogs are on each sliding gear and allow those gears to mate.

What causes selector forks to get bent?

Dropping the bike on the shift lever is a good way to bend one. Others just wear out or become the victim of an abusive owner. Clutch less shifting done wrong will also bend shift forks.

I hear strange noise coming from what appears to be my gearbox. What could that be?

Anything from a worn bearing to a chipped gear can cause noise in a gearbox. Remove the motorcycle from service until its condition can be determined by a professional. A gearbox that fails can cause an accident.
